Adapted from Rob Doyle’s highly acclaimed debut novel, HERE ARE THE YOUNG MEN takes us back to the summer of 2003 when three affluent Dublin teenagers Matthew, nihilistic Rez, and the deranged ringleader Kearney, have just left school entering a social vacuum of drinking, drugs, disruption and social transgression in search of something that might fill the void surrounding their directionless paths. Obsessed with endless footage of 9/11 and the Iraqi war, and increasingly accessible brutal video games, Kearney takes the others under his wing, getting deeper and deeper into a twilight zone of violence and criminal atrocities. Distanced from their actions by the increased sense of unreality created by the dominance of film, television, and social media in their everyday lives, the boundary between what is real, and what is being acted out in a fantasy world or is purely imagined become almost indistinguishable…
