How Festivals are Born?

Naoise Nunn is a festival and events producer with more than 20 years experience. He developed the MindField spoken word arena at the Electric Picnic festival (Ireland’s Glastonbury) of which he has been director since 2006. He is also the programme director of the Kilkenomics festival of economics and comedy in Kilkenny which he’s helped develop since 2010. Naoise was artistic director of the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival between 2012 and 2016, which has featured such comedians as Bill Murray, Eddie Izzard, Dylan Moran, Dan Castellaneta (Homer Simpson), Louis CK and many more. He is Chairman of Kilkenny Tourism which markets Kilkenny City and County as an international destination. He recently co-founded and produced the Kilkenny Animated festival of visual storytelling with Paul Young of Cartoon Saloon, the three-time Oscar nominated animation studio.
Maria Schweppe is a freelance arts, festival & comedy producer with more than 20 years’ experience working professionally in the arts. Maria was the Fellowships and Operations Co-ordinator at the Clore Leadership Programme, London from 2010 to 2015. Since returning to Ireland, in August 2015, she is now director of the Bram Stoker Festival; producer and programmer of the Vodafone Comedy Tent at Body&Soul and has produced The Irish Times Theatre Awards in 2017 and 2018; a national tour for legendary comedy trio, Apres Match; the Father Ted Experience at Electric Picnic; and was Production & Operations Manager for Turkfest, a micro festival held on the island of Inisturk. In August last year, she was On-site Arts Producer for the Electric Picnic, Ireland’s largest music and arts Festival. She is the founder of the London Irish Comedy Festival. Previously she worked for: Dublin Youth Theatre, where she was also a board member; Axis, Ballymun’s Arts & Community Resource.
